VALORANT Patch 13.08 Kicks Off Act 6 With Major Map Rotation Shake-Up

Riot Games has officially launched VALORANT Patch 13.08, marking the start of Act 6. Ascent and Split are out of Competitive and Deathmatch, replaced by Bind and Corrode, alongside key map tweaks and a new Map Rating system.

Riot Games has officially rolled out VALORANT Patch 13.08, confirming the start of Act 6 and bringing one of the biggest map rotation changes of the season. The update is live now on all platforms and directly affects which maps players will see in Competitive and Deathmatch queues going forward.

What's Confirmed: The New Map Rotation

According to the official patch notes, Ascent and Split have been removed from the Competitive and Deathmatch map pools, while Bind and Corrode are now in rotation. This swap changes the strategic landscape for ranked and casual queue players alike, as team compositions and agent picks often shift based on which maps are active.

Riot also confirmed that Corrode received a dedicated update to mark its first anniversary in the game. The developers stated they identified rotation timing issues after watching a year of match data, specifically noting that defenders were struggling to rotate back for retakes quickly enough on the map.

Corrode Gets Targeted Defender Buffs

The patch notes detail several specific changes to Corrode aimed at speeding up defender rotations:

  • Defender spawn pathing toward both A and B sites has been adjusted to help defenders rotate faster during retakes.
  • The half wall at Mid Stairs was changed to metal to reduce wall-bang spam, and moved out one meter to give attackers access to A Link without being exposed to Mid Top.
  • Boxes at the back of Lower Mid were moved toward B Lobby entrance, with a new jump-up added for faster rotations.
  • A wall in Lower Mid was raised to stop players from peeking over it using the relocated boxes.

Riot also quietly patched several exploit-related bugs on Corrode, including an issue where Killjoy's Alarmbot would fail to path correctly near B-Site Tower, along with unintended boost spots that Raze, Jett, and Deadlock could previously abuse.

Beyond Maps: Map Rating and Performance Score

Alongside the rotation update, Riot confirmed the patch introduces a new Map Rating feature and an update to the existing Performance Score system, both aimed at giving players more insight into match quality and individual performance tracking. The studio also reiterated that its Vanguard anti-cheat system continues to actively operate against cheaters as part of ongoing enforcement efforts tied to Act 6.

Why This Matters for Players

Map rotations directly shape the competitive meta, and losing two long-standing maps like Ascent and Split while gaining a freshly tuned Corrode and returning favorite Bind means players should expect noticeable shifts in agent priority, especially for Sentinels and Initiators whose utility is highly map-dependent. Since Act 6 runs through early January, these changes will define the ranked grind for the next several months, making it worth adjusting map-specific strategies now rather than later in the Act.

Players can find the full technical patch notes, including complete bug fix lists, on Riot's official VALORANT site.
