Marvel’s Wolverine arrives on PS5 on September 15. Insomniac Games has revealed new details about Logan’s combat, story, suit design and major allies and enemies.

Marvel’s Wolverine Launches September 15: Everything You Need to Know
Marvel’s Wolverine is set to launch exclusively on PlayStation 5 on September 15, bringing Insomniac Games’ interpretation of Logan to players.
Ahead of the release, members of the development team shared new information about the game’s combat, story, character design and supporting cast. The studio says its goal was to create an experience that remains faithful to Wolverine while giving players a new version of the iconic Marvel character.
A Different Experience From Spider-Man
Insomniac Games is widely known for its Marvel’s Spider-Man series, but the studio says Wolverine required a very different approach.
While Spider-Man is strongly connected to an open-world version of New York, Marvel’s Wolverine is designed to feel more grounded, physical and intense. Logan interacts with the world at close range, making combat more direct and destructive.
The developers describe him as a powerful but imperfect fighter who breaks through obstacles and leaves visible damage behind. This gives the game a heavier and more aggressive identity than Insomniac’s previous superhero titles.
Claw Combat and Logan’s Fighting Style
Wolverine’s claws are central to the game’s combat system. The developers wanted every encounter to reflect his strength, martial arts experience and animal-like instincts.
Rather than presenting Logan as a polished superhero, the game portrays him as a brutal brawler capable of fighting several enemies at once. His movements become increasingly animalistic during combat and traversal, reinforcing the idea that his rage is always close to the surface.
However, the story is not focused only on violence. Insomniac also wants players to understand the emotional experiences behind Logan’s anger and his desire to protect vulnerable mutants.
Liam McIntyre Plays Logan
Actor Liam McIntyre portrays Logan in Marvel’s Wolverine. According to the development team, his performance was important in showing the two sides of the character.
Logan can display extreme rage and aggression, but he is also capable of kindness, loyalty and sacrifice. This contrast is expected to play an important role in the story.
A Suit Inspired by Wolverine’s History
Wolverine’s suit combines elements from several of his classic comic book designs.
The developers drew inspiration from the familiar yellow-and-brown and yellow-and-blue costumes but added a darker, tactical style. Real-world military clothing, protective equipment and motorcycle armor also influenced the final design.
The result is a suit that recognizes Wolverine’s comic book history while fitting the more grounded world created for the game.
Allies and Enemies
Marvel’s Wolverine will feature several familiar characters, including Mystique, Jean Grey and Sabretooth.
The relationships between these characters will not simply repeat stories that fans have already seen. Insomniac says it has explored new interpretations of their histories and conflicts, particularly Logan’s complicated connection with Sabretooth and their shared past in Team X.
Players will also face the Reavers, a group of dangerous cyborg mercenaries, and the Hand, warriors equipped with deadly weapons and ancient combat training.
More Than a Superhero Action Game
Insomniac Games wants Marvel’s Wolverine to deliver intense action while also encouraging players to understand Logan as a character.
Behind the claws and rage is a man who has experienced loss and suffering but continues to protect the people around him. The development team hopes players will finish the game with greater empathy for Logan, rather than remembering only its combat.
Marvel’s Wolverine launches on PlayStation 5 on September 15, 2026.
